Teaching abroad
Through Cambridge University’s Faculty of Education, where I taught on the Early Years and PGCE courses, I made three trips to Dubai where I led Inset training at Magrudy’s Teachers’ Centre in creative approaches to English, art, drama and dance. I also taught women students at Al Ain College, staff at Wesgreen Primary School, Sharjah and children in schools.
In 2010, as a result of a recommendation from a teacher in Dubai, I made two visits to the International School of Bangalore, India, where I again led Inset training in creative writing, and literacy sessions with children, using drama and art as inspiration to address different writing genres.
In 2019 I taught in a newly formed primary school in Dilijan, Armenia, at the invitation of the teacher I had worked with in Bangalore.
On every occasion I have reaped just as much as I have sown (probably more) and it is a privilege to learn from children and exchange ideas with teachers from many different countries and cultures.
I am so grateful for such unexpected opportunities!
